Saute Ste. Marie is on Eastern Time Zone.
You can see Canada on the other side of the river. If you are adventurous bring your passport and cross the border.
Coming from the South you will cross the Mackinac Bridge. If you want to take photos stop at the rest area before the bridge. There is no way to see the bridge from the rest area on the other side. The toll is $4 per car. If you have an extra day or more stay on Mackinac Island which is very haunted. You need to take a ferry over to the island. There are no vehicles allowed.
For dinner one night we ventured into town and ate at a local restaurant called The Antlers, 804 E. Portage Ave., Saute Ste. Marie. It's a very unique place. Not much to look at on the outside but inside the place was filled with taxidermy everywhere. Check out the photos below of some unique menu items. Putine is a Canadian dish and you don't have to cross the border to try it! Cyndi had the Brunswick Soo Stew Canoe and Madeline had the Michigan Gumbo Soo Stew Canoe. Both were very good. Just the right amount of food so we could have dessert. If your friend is having a birthday be sure and tell the staff. They have a loud fog horn that had my ears ringing and flashing lights to celebrate the occasion.
There's an Applebee's and Buffalo Wild Wings in town along with some fast food restaurants.
